Failed Campagnolo 11-sprocket Chain

See other failures under 000.html.

Campagnolo 11-sprocket chain, failed with pin/plate separation; caused by service without the Campagnolo-specific chain tool. From http://cozybeehive.blogspot.com/2009/06/campagnolo-11-speed-chain-failure.html as of 2010/03.

Failed after assembly with a "generic" chain tool instead of chain-specific tool that peens the pin.

This failure is due to improper installation. However, riders should be aware the tool for proper service is both expensive and impractical to carry on rides. Thus, while the chain is suited to racing, its are not suited to field repairs and thus not suited to ordinary cycling.

Like many Shimano chains, this chain also requires a special pin to reassemble, further complicating field repairs, as the pin has a segment that needs to be broken off, thus needing a way to break it off. The special chain tool has a notch to do that, but again is not practical to carry on rides.
